Manufacture of school papers - From the role to the finished product

How is an exercise book manufactured? Quite simply, in six steps!

For the production of exercise books, various papers can be used. Today virgin fiber paper or recycled paper can be used. Depending on the issue and use certain rulings are printed. The most commonly used formats are A4, A5 and A6. The exercise books are available in different thicknesses, usually with 16 or 32 sheets.

Production of an exercise book of A4 recycled paper with 16 sheets

first

Winding: At the beginning the paper, in our case, recycled paper is wound on large rolls. The length of the so-called paper web is different, because the role is only of a certain diameter to fit into the machine. According to that: The shorter the paper web is, the thicker is the paper.

second

Smoothing: First, the paper on the rollers is uneven in order to instantly print on them. So, it runs over many cylinders, gets stretched and pulled, so that the surface is becoming smoother.

Third

Ruling: Then, the paper web goes through the part of the machinery in which the ruling is printed, in our case lines. Here a roller takes the paint and gives it to another roller with the respective ruling from. This roller works as a kind of stamp and transfers the lines onto the paper. The paper web runs during the colouring on a stainless steel roller to give the necessary footing.

Four

Cuting: After this, the paper web is cut across the width and stripes are generated. These strips are twice as wide as the format of the future exercise book, because they are to be folded later. This paper stripes will be folded in the desired number on top of each other - that means for a 16 sheet exercise book 8 leaves on top of each other. If there will be blotting paper in the exercise book, it is put in at this point.

Five

Stapling: Next a paper stripe of the surrounding paper comes on the paper web. This paper strip is just as wide and long as the other paper stripes and the motive is printed there several times. Now, the stack of paper is stapled with a large tacker in the middle.

Six

Folding: Then comes the so-called folding. Here the stapled stack of paper is folded on the whole width in the middle. Now the stack of paper is cut several times, so that there will be several exercise books from one stack of paper.

Finished!
