The FSC™ is an internationally operating, non-profit organisation in which environmental associations, social organisations, modern forestry enterprises and companies in the wood processing industry work together with the aim of achieving global improvement in forest management. Amongst other things, clear cutting and the use of pesticides are prohibited. The aim is to sustain the species diversity of the forests.

As a company offering numerous paper and wood items, Herlitz pays special attention to environmentally friendly materials. Since 2008, Herlitz PBS AG, Berlin, thus features office and stationary supplies made of FSC™-certified materials and continues to expand its offer every year. With the certification, Herlitz makes sure that the processed raw materials originate exclusively from responsibly cultivated forests, ranging from growing trees up to paper selection and processing. Besides exercise books and pads, all standard coloured and black pencils are being produced from FSC™-certified materials since 2010. The same applies for the folders and ring folders of the "maX.file" range. At present, the company contributes to responsible forestry with 319 Herlitz items altogether.
